11 Pretty Maang Tikka Hairstyles to try this Wedding Season

My favourite way to glam up an ethnic wedding look is with a Maang tikka. Middle parted hair is how I used to rock my maang tikka in the past but recently I have been smitten by the jhoomar trend and I started searching for more hairstyle ideas which fit both tika and jhoomar elegantly without looking bridal.

Maang Tikka is a traditional hair accessory which majority of brides wear but women of all ages can give this accessory a try for special traditional occasions like diwali, eid or weddings. To get your maang tikka ethnic look right you need to complement it with a right hairstyle as all hairstyles dont look good with a maang tikka. If you really want your hair accessory to sit gracefully on your hair try one of these pretty hairstyles.

11 Pretty Maang Tikka Hairstyles to try this Wedding Season

#1 Middle parted partially pinned back hair with maang tikka

When wearing a Maang tikka you just cant go wrong with middle parted hair as the Tikka chain sits comfortably in the hair partition . This partially middle parted hairstyle is my favourite when it comes to wearing a maang tikka and I have rocked it many times. I just partition front portion of my hair and then use a clip to pull back some hair for it to look like a puff. You can iron out your hair for a sleek look or go for some curls for a wavy layered look.

#2 Side parted braided hairstyle with Maang Tikka

A side braid is fun and fuss free and you can try different braid styles like fishtail braid or messy french braid . Glam up your braided look with an over sized tikka taking care to hide just the tikka chain and not the tikka itself.

#3 Side parted open wavy hairstyle with hidden chain tikka setting

If you like open side parted hairstyle you can add a tikka even to this hair look but make sure sure your tika is small to balance out the wavy hairstyle.

#4 Middle parted hair bun with loose hair flicks and maang tikka

Hair buns works nicely for traditional events and you can glam it up with a tikka and leave loose hair flicks on both sides to frame your face.

#5 Middle parted open hair

The simplest hairstyle to wear a mang tikka is to middle part your hair and leave them open . I dont like this hairstyle much because my hair start behaving like a rebel and flying all over the place, sometimes sticking to my lip gloss too! If you want to try this hairstyle I suggest you use a nice hair hold spray and serum to keep your hair in place.

#6 Pouf braided hairstyle

A pouf plait also works as a nice maang tikka hairstyle especially for south Indian weddings or with borla style tikkas.

#7 Front twisty bun

Bun hairstyles look good for weddings but why go for boring old style buns when you can try fun buns with twisted fronts and tikka in middle. This hairstyle works best when you are wearing dupatta on your head, think nikaahs and anand karaajs!

#8 Sleek middle parted bun with maang tikka

#9 Side twisted open hairstyle with maang tikka

#10 Soft low bun hairstyle with tikka

#11 Sleek Top knot bun with over sized tikka

This fierce bun hairstyle is super kitch and sleek making for a fabulous sangeet or mehndi day haistyle. if you are wearing an indo western outfit and wanna try something out of the box try this gelled in top knot with an oversized tikka and keep rest of your accessories minimal.

Additional Maang Tikka hairstyle tips

- Glamorous hair accessories are in trend these days. Dont be afraid to experiment with head jewellery and swap your tikka with a matha patti , jhoomar or a side paneled tikka.

- Hidden maang tikka hairstyles look super chic. A side parted hairstyle can easily hide the tikka chain revealing only the pendant for a subtle ethnic look

- To keep Maang tikka in place most women use a booby pin but it never works for me as I find the tikka always moving on its own will.  It is better to use eye lash glue to stick the pendant part to your forehead. Even a small piece of double sided tape can work nicely.

- Always set your hair with a hairspray to keep them in place or you will end up taming unruly flyways all through the event.

- If you are wearing a huge tikka then avoid a jhoomar and kept rest of your accessories minimal. If your tikka is small then add a more accessories to your hai like a jhoomar, roses or baby's breath in braid

10 Totally Simple Hairstyles to try with Kurtis

Kurtis are like my favorite piece of clothing because they offer amazing comfort without compromising on style. I find kurtis very flattering on my post pregnancy body size especially the A-line and anarkali kurtis which beautifully hide my tummy fat.

I have been flaunting the kurtis a lot these days not only as a casual wear at home outfit but also for special occasions. Kurtis can easily be your go to festive wear option if you shop smartly and style carefully. I am wearing many trendy kurti designs and trying new makeup looks and hairstyles with them so I decided today to share simple hairstyles which work nicely with kurtis.

Women mainly wear kurtis like a comfortable everyday wear and opt for a simple same old hairstyle . But if you want to experiment a little and update your day time everyday wear look try a new hairstyle which makes a lot of difference and lends your look more elegance. Get inspired from hairstyle ideas below.

10 Simple Hairstyles to try with Kurtis

#1 Chic open hair twisted on one side

This is simple and chic hairstyle I try for daytime kurti look. To get this look do a side parting or middle parting of hair as per your liking . Now take a small section of hair on one side of the parting and twist it then secure with a bobby pin.  I have naturally wavy hair so I dont need to curl my hair but if you want you can lightly curl your ends. I also add a studded clip instead of a normal bobby pin sometimes for a more dressy look.

# 2 Sleek middle parted hair

At home after bath I just middle part my wavy hair and let it dry . If you want your kurti or jewellery to be highlight of look then dont try to over style your hair. Go for a sleek middle parted hair look .

#3 Pinned back hair with a puff

For an elegant half up half down pinned hair look take the front portion of hair and pin it at the back after creating a puff. You can use bump its to create a high volume puff. Leave rest of your hair open and curl the ends lightly. This hairstyle works best with sleeveless kurtis.

#4 High pony hairstyle

For a more modern look complete your fusion kurti looks with a high pony. this hairstyle works best for summer when cotton kurtis are worn most. You can try this hairstyle with short kurtis paired with jeans or shirt style collared kurtis for more formal look. To make it look more sophisticated take a small section of hair from your ponytail and wrap it around the elasic and secure it with abobby pin in the back of pony.

#5 Side ponytail with flick hairstyle

If you have naturally wavy hair then try a side ponytail with some flicks on the other side to frame your face.

#6 Tight high bun hairstyle

High bun hairstyles also look good with kurtis and also give an illusion of longer face and neck. Try a high bun hairstyle and give it a more traditional touch by adding mogra flowers or  other hair accessories. This hairstyle is best reserved for special occasions where you want to wear a kurti.

#7 Loose side braid hairstyle

Side part your hair and loosely braid your hair on the other side for a chic sumemr look. You can try different styles of braids on the side like dutch braid, french braid or even fistail braid.

#8 Open middle parted twisted  on both sides hairstyle

Twisting a section of your hair from both sides and securing them with pins in the back looks stylish and will also keep hair away from your face. Try this hairstyle with your anarkali or A-line kurtas.

#9 Open side swept hairstyle

The simplest hairstyle which can be worn by girls with medium length hair. Just side part your hair and pull it to one side making it fall on your shoulders in layers. If you want to wear this hairstyle for a long duration try discreetly pinning the hair on one side so they stay put . Use hairspray to keep fly aways at bay

#9 Messy braid  hairstyle

Braids are the most common hairstyles women wear with traditional Indian outfits and you can try it with kurtis too. For a more trendy kurti look try a messy braid with side parted hair. The best thing about braids and plaits are that they are comfortable and can be done by people of both medium and long length hair.

#10 Twisted hair with side pony hairstyle

For an elegant summer look try a sleek side pony. You can go for a normal side pony or add more drama by twisting hair in front on one side and then pulling your hair on other side in a pony. Iam loving this hairstyle a lot these days and trying many variations like twisting hair or front french braiding it on one side before grabbing it into a pony on other side.

#13 Open hair with a twisted side for medium length hair

I love keeping things natural and simple and this wavy open hair side with a side twist is my favourite. I style my hair like this majority of times for a soft feminine look and it suits breezy saree looks nicely. Just twist your hair  on the side and clip it securely with bobby pins. Lightly curl the lower strands of hair for a chic look.

#14 Low bun hairstyle with flicks

If you like the idea of flicks framing your face then go for a loose low bun after middle parting your hair. Your hair bun can have flicks in front on side or both sides as per your liking. Use hair jewelry like cute side clips of huge tika to beautify your loose low bun hairstyle even more.

#15 Traditional twisted bun hairstyle for saree with flowers

Hair middle parted and twisted to form a low bun goes well with traditional silk sarees.  Sonam Kapoor styles this traditional saree look to perfection by adding a pair of jhumkas and fresh flowers in hair.  This twisted bun hairstyle looks beautiful but is simple to do as you have to just part you hair from middle and twist them both the sides and then tie it loosely in a bun at the nape. This hairstyle tends to look pretty extravagant so it is better suited for clean cut no frills blouse designs.

If you dont want to add mogra flowers then accessorize you hair bun with pearls.

More Tips for styling hair with saree

- Hairstyles with flicks can look chic but they can give an unruly look after a certain time period in summer, so choose your hairstyle wisely keeping the weather in mind.
- Choose your hairstyle keeping your blouse in mind. If you have a nice back design in blouse go for a high bun to flaunt your back.
- With one shouldered blouse go for a side swept hairdo to create a visual balance.
- Neckline of your blouse plays an important role in deciding your hairstyle. Tight high bun with a deep neck blouse is a big No. Opt for half up half down hairstyle or open hair in curls for V neck blouses.
- If you want to flaunt an off shouldered blouse with your saree go for vintage curls or low buns.
- Also keep your sari drape in mind. A contemporary drape means you should opt for a wispy updo or simple open hair. For a traditionally draped saree go for a classic buns or braided hairdos with flowers.
- Braided hairstyles are best for sarees paired with high neck blouse designs .
- Hair spray is very important to hold hairstyle in place so it stays put all through an event. invest in one which can hold your hair and add a bit of shine too.
- If baby hair is your concern then try this simple hack to tame them. Use an inexpensive clear mascara and comb through unruly fly aways to keep them in place. You can even try spraying a toothbrush with hairspray to smooth down baby hair.
- Try not to wash hair on the day when you have to attend an event. Washing hair makes it frizzy and very difficult to style. It is best to wash hair a day before especially if you dont have a very oily scalp.
- You have to be extra careful if you are using fresh flowers in your hair because they look very untidy when they wilt away.  Store your flowers properly in a fridge before an occasion and remove to wear only after your bun has been done. When shopping for mogra strands look for closed mogra buds .
